Toler, Frank (1988). The President and the Constitution, Social Studies Review. Intended for ninth grade students, this ten day unit focuses on the constitutional powers of the President of the United States. Merryfield, Merry M. (1987). South African Perspectives and U. S. Resources, Social Education. Heath, Brent E. (1988). How Much Power Should a President Have? The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, Social Studies Review. Based on the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and the legislation which it spurred, the lesson includes teaching procedures, discussion questions, and student readings. Garza-Lubeck, Maria (1987). U. S. History Textbooks: The Next Hundred Years, OAH Magazine of History. Provides brief review of results of a study of junior and senior high school United States history textbooks conducted by a panel of six educators and historians. In general, panel found that books ranged from strong to adequate in their content coverage. Coverage of pluralistic background, religion, and painful aspects of our history were areas in which weaknesses appeared.
